President’s Message – May 2011

“Calling All Golfers . . . and Beginners, too”

Having lived in Wisconsin for more than 40 years, and being a meteorologist by education to boot, I am certainly familiar with the vagaries of April weather in Wisconsin. Even after this lengthy spell of cold, wet, and even snowy, weather, my hope “springs” eternal that summer is just around the corner.

For FET, summer in Wisconsin also brings our annual scholarship golf outing. For 2011, the event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20th at Naga-Waukee in Pewaukee. This popular course has been used the previous three years and the event has grown in popularity over time. Participation has increased from 24 golfers in 2008 to 39 golfers in 2010. Revenues from these events have generated over $4,000 for student scholarship funding.   These proceeds are one of the primary funding sources for the scholarships we present to students each year at our Environment Conference.

Our Scholarship Golf Committee, led by Mary Recktenwalt, has begun making plans for this year’s outing, our 4th annual event. So, plan on coming out for some exercise, fresh air, good food and camaraderie.  Help us achieve one of our main objectives – support for students’ environmental education. Oh yes, there are also 18 holes of golf . . .

While our volatile Wisconsin weather poses forecasting challenges, I can confidently predict that you will have a good time at this year’s outing.  All skill levels are welcome to play!  See inside for further information and registration details.
