Wisconsin DNR Offers “Environmental Compliance Roadmap” for Regulated Entities

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced an “Environmental Compliance Roadmap” to help regulated entities deal with compliance issues associated with COVID-19. The DNR has said that regulated entities affected by COVID-19 can work with the agency to develop alternative compliance methods for non-emergency situations. A public communication from DNR about the program explained: “Under Gov. Evers’ Safer at Home order the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will prioritize responding to imminent threats or complaints related to public health, safety and the environment over routine, on-site audits and inspections.”

All state environmental laws and regulations remain in effect and all entities should make every effort to comply with their obligations under the law. Spills and other urgent compliance issues can be reported immediately to the DNR at any time of day by calling 1-800-943-0003 and selecting “1.” For non-emergency situations, regulated entities can email their DNR compliance manager or visit the DNR’s website and use the agency’s online form to report an issue.
