FET’s Annual Conference and Exhibition is held each year over a 3-day period. The first day provides a number of Professional Development Courses to choose from, followed by a 2-day program including an opening plenary session, a panel discussion and many educational sessions on everything environmental, health and safety.

Todd Palmer

Plenary Speaker on Federal EPA, Enforcement and Litigation Update
For more than 30 years, Todd has helped numerous clients remain in compliance with all aspects of the complex and dynamic suite of environmental laws, with a particular focus on Clean Air Act regulation. His extensive knowledge of and experience includes obtaining environmental permits, planning future activities to minimize the expense of regulation, litigation involving all manner of environmental regulation, and the defense of allegations that a company may have violated environmental laws.
Todd has worked on environmental issues in virtually every industry sector.
In addition, Todd has served on the State’s Air Management Study Group, working to streamline air permitting, implementing federal regulatory directives, advising on the development of state Clean Air Act implementation plans and, where necessary, developing new programs in the state.

Karen Hyun

Luncheon Keynote on Goals at the Department of Natural Resources in 2026
Karen Hyun, Ph.D has extensive experience working on natural resources, stewardship and conservation issues. Hyun has most recently served as the chief of staff of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) since 2021. She also has more than a decade of experience in policy and environmental work.
Hyun began her career in 2009, staffing the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Natural Resources. In 2012, Hyun served as a senior policy advisor for the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of the Secretary and also the chief of staff position for the Department’s Office of the Deputy Secretary in 2013. Hyun earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Earth Systems from Stanford University in California and a doctorate in Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island.

Luncheon Keynote on How Sustainability and Renewables Will Factor into the Expanding Demand for Generation Capacity
In his role as senior vice president of power generation, Kyle Hoops is responsible for power generation for We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service (WPS), overseeing the companies’ combined generation fleet, which includes coal, natural gas, biomass, wind, solar and hydroelectric assets. He also oversees the fleet’s support groups, including engineering, planning, training and safety, and is responsible for We Energies’ district energy business in downtown Milwaukee.
Hoops holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, where he was named Outstanding Young Graduate. He also is a recipient of the South Dakota Governor’s Award for Valor.

Accepting Papers
FET accepts Papers for presentations a variety of topics that have a broad interest across many disciplines and do not include sales-oriented materials. All Abstracts are peer-reviewed.
Abstract
Acceptance of an abstract by FET is considered a commitment by the author to present the paper at the conference.
